Size Guide & Delivery Options

Size Guide

A Wendy House can be the perfect solution for many additional space requirements. Choosing the right size is important to ensure your space is functional and adds value. Some important considerations are below.

The first and most important step is to clearly define how you intend to use your wendy house. This will heavily influence the size you need. Consider these questions:

  • Storage: will it primarily be used for storing garden tools, equipment, outdoor furniture, bicycles, or household overflow? Consider the size of the items you would like to store and how much space they need.
  • Workspace: do you envision it as a home office, hobby room, artist’s studio, or workshop? Think about the furniture and equipment you’ll need to fit inside.
  • Recreational space: will it be a children’s playhouse, a teenage hangout, or a quiet reading nook? Consider the number of people who will use it and the activities they’ll engage in.
  •  Guard House: how many guards are on duty at the same time, what equipment do they have and what are their duties? If they need to monitor camera screens or do administrative work, how much space does their furniture and equipment need?
  • Living Space: will it be a permanent living space or an outside guest room? Consider the size of the bed, other furniture that is needed, and whether a cooking area is required. If a bathroom is a requirement, consider something with a partition.
  • Combination: will it serve multiple purposes? If so, allocate space for each intended use.

Carefully evaluate the area in your garden or property where you plan to place the wendy house.

  • Measure: Use a measuring tape to determine the exact dimensions of the available space. Consider any obstacles like trees, fences, or pathways.
  • Visualise: Use stakes or ropes to mark out potential footprints of different sizes to get a better visual understanding of how a wendy house might fit in the space.
  • Accessibility for installation: Ensure your space is big enough for us to install the wendy house into. We need 400mm all around to be able to put the wendy house together. The minimum install areas for each size wendy house can be found under “technical information” on the size-specific product page. Alternatively, please look at the table below.
  • Accessibility after installation: Ensure you’ll have access to the wendy house after it is installed, with enough space to move around it and open the door.

Familiarise yourself with our standard Wendy House sizes. We have a wide range of options to suit many different needs and space requirements. Our “filter by size” feature may be valuable for this.

If you aren’t sure what size will suit you best, come and stand in a variety of different options to get a feel for them. Wendy House sizes can be deceiving on paper and physically standing in them is very valuable!

If in doubt or if you would like some extra information, please contact us. We will happily explore the best size options to meet your needs and fit seamlessly into your space. We also carry a wide range of stock which you are welcome to come and view at any time to get a good feeling for the space.

When choosing which security house is the right size for you, consider how many guards are on shift at the same time, what equipment they need, which duties they need to perform, and the amount of available space.

The 1.2m x 1.2m Guard House is best described as a traditional security hut. It is suitable to protect a single guard from the elements and has enough space for a chair inside. If you have more than one guard per shift or if they need anything more than a chair (like screens to monitor CCTV footage and a desk), explore a bigger option.

The bigger security house options and their suitability are as follows:

  • 1.8m x 1.8m: suitable for one guard with equipment, or two guards with minimal equipment. Available without a veranda or with an additional 0.9m veranda.
  • 2.4m x 2.4m: suitable for two guards with equipment, or three guards with minimal equipment. Available without a veranda or with an additional 1.2m veranda.
  • 3m x 3m: suitable for three to four guards with equipment, or up to six guards with minimal equipment. Available without a veranda or with an additional 1.2m veranda.

If you would like a security house with a bathroom, consider our options with toilet partitions. The toilet partition is placed at 1.2m which gives ample space for a toilet and basin. There are three different size options to consider: 2.4m x 3.6m, 3m x 4.2m or the 3m x 4.2m with a 1.2m veranda.

If you have any questions about our Guard Houses or products, please contact us. We will happily explore the best size options to meet your needs.

Our standard range of Play Houses has a perfect option for children of any age.

The 1.8m x 2.4m Rock Hard Play House has an additional 0.6m Veranda. This is a magical play space for children up to nine years old. Designed with a reduced 1.5m wall height, it features charming child-height doors and windows which are perfectly scaled for little ones to enter and peek out, fostering independent play and exploration. The thoughtfully designed height is still adult-friendly and parents can comfortably interact and play alongside their children in the play house. If your children are nearing nine years of age, consider something a little bit bigger which will last them a little bit longer.

There are two bigger options, the 2.4m x 2.4m with an additional 1.2m veranda or the 3m x 3m with the additional 1.2m veranda. Both options provide an exciting space for children of all ages, including teenagers! There is plenty of space for younger children to play with their toys and friends, and older children or teenagers to use it as a study and/or chill area for them and their friends. The spacious 1.2m veranda is also large enough to put a small table and chair for children to enjoy the sunshine on their very own “stoep”.

Delivery or DIY

We offer delivery and installation up to 150kms from our factory in Muldersdrift, Gauteng. If you fall outside this delivery range, or are a DIY-savvy individual, we also offer a “Collect & DIY” option.

We offer delivery and installation within 150km from our location, with deliveries within 60km being free of charge. We pride ourselves in our superior delivery and installation process which is both professional and efficient. Below is some important information about our delivery and installation process.

Our Wendy Houses Arrive In Panels

Our Wendy Houses arrive in pre-built panels and are erected on site. This has two main advantages:

  • Easy access: We can navigate narrow pathways, tight corners, and properties with restricted access. If there is an opening as wide as a pedestrian gate with a 2.4m height clearance, we can get your Wendy House to your desired spot.
  • Remarkably quick and efficient installation process: Our installation times range from just less than an hour to about six hours depending on the size of the Wendy House and the optional extras, specifically roof insulation and stilted bases.

We Install Our Wendy Houses Onto Bricks

We level the Wendy House floor onto bricks by placing bricks at approximately 400mm – 600mm intervals throughout the floor. You do not need to do any ground preparation before we come. We bring the bricks with us and this is all included in our delivery and installation price.

If your gradient exceeds 400mm across the diagonal, we do not recommend a brick install. In this situation, we recommend a stilted base which we offer at an additional cost, or we recommend that you pour a concrete slab. For more information on stilted bases, please visit our FAQ’s.

You Can Book A Morning Slot Or An Afternoon Slot

We deliver and install multiple Wendy Houses per day which means that we are unable to give you an exact arrival time. That being said, we try our best to fit in with your schedule which is why we offer a “morning” or “afternoon” slot. If you request a morning slot, you will be our first stop for the day and our crew should arrive at your property before 10am. If you book an afternoon slot, you will be our last stop for the day and our crew should arrive after 2pm.

No matter which delivery slot you request or are assigned for the day, the installer will always phone you when they are on the way to give you a more accurate arrival time.

No Hidden Costs

With Wendy House Centre, “delivered and installed” means just that. When we are done, your Wendy House is ready to use and there are no hidden costs along the way.

Our delivery and installation price includes the wendy house, fully braced and treated floor, window glazing, and bricks for the installation.

We Come Prepared

The only things you need to do on the day of your installation are to let us in and show us where to put the Wendy House. We come prepared with everything else that we need to ensure a smooth and efficient process. You can relax, rest-assured that we’ve got this in hand.

We Install In The Rain

When it is raining, we put on our rain coats and smiles and carry on. There is no need to worry about if your installation will happen or not, it will happen!

If you fall outside our delivery range, or enjoy a bit of DIY, our Collect & DIY option would suit you best. Do not let this scare you, it is simple to do and comes with everything you need.

This Is Included In The Collect & DIY Option

The collect and DIY option comes with everything you need to assemble your Rock Hard wendy house. This includes:

  • “Rock Hard” wendy house in panels. This includes the floor, walls, roof sheets and roof trusses, glass and putty for windows (if applicable), and doors which are pre-fitted,
  • Fasteners and pozi drive needed for installation,
  • Touch up paint, and
  • Fully photographed step-by-step instructions.
